Welcome—I'm Ian Hughes.

Author. Survivor. Storyteller with purpose.

I write fantasy that remembers what the world would rather forget—and memoirs that confront what too many are told to keep silent.

My books, Echo of Fate and Storm Child, come from two sides of the same truth: one shaped by myth, the other by memory.

Born into a turbulent upbringing shaped by systems meant to protect—but too often failed to—I grew up knowing what it means to fight for your voice, your safety, and your future. That fight didn’t end with childhood. It shaped my calling.

I earned a Master of Arts in Health and Social Policy with a clear mission: to transform trauma into change. My writing is an extension of that mission.

Storm Child is a raw and unflinching memoir that speaks to those who have survived, those still searching for answers, and those ready to break the silence.
The Echo of Fate fantasy series—beginning with A Saga of Fate and Fire and continuing in Unbound—channels myth, memory, and resistance into a narrative where fractured gods, powerful women, and forgotten truths collide.

I write for the silenced. I write to remember. I write because stories—true or imagined—can open doors, heal wounds, and change what comes next.

This is more than a website. It’s a testament to resilience, a platform for truth, and the beginning of something bigger.

Thank you for being here.

About Ian Hughes

✍️ About the Author

Ian Hughes is a storyteller drawn to the quiet between thunderclaps.

Born and raised in Scotland, their voice carries the weight of storm-tossed coastlines, ancient myth, and the unyielding resilience of those who walk through fire and remember how to sing. Whether writing memoir, historical fiction, or myth-infused fantasy, they weave narratives that echo with memory, loss, and the fragile, unbreakable threads of love.

Their debut memoir, Storm Child, is a raw and lyrical account of surviving a fractured childhood—and forging identity through truth. In The Elijah Hall Chronicles, they sail deep into the past, crafting tales of revolution, salt, and sorrow that blur the line between fact and fable. Their epic fantasy series, beginning with Echo of Fate: A Saga of Fate and Fire, reimagines Norse mythology in a shattered world where memory is a weapon and love is a force the gods fear.

Their work is known for mythic language, emotionally resonant characters, and stories that linger like echoes long after the final page.

“I write for those who were told their story didn’t matter. I write to remember. I write because memory, even broken, is sacred.”

They are currently working on the next instalment of the Echo Cycle, continuing the saga of fate, fire, and the fight to reclaim what was stolen.

Echo of Fate

A Saga of Fate and Fire

đź“– Echo of Fate: A Saga of Fate and Fire

Book One of the Echo of Fate Trilogy
By Ian Hughes

What if the myths we inherit are not just stories—but weapons, seals, and systems of control?

When archaeologists Harper Lane and Fraser MacLeod uncover a torc buried beneath the ancient crypt of Véornir, they awaken more than just history. Whispers long silenced stir again, and an ancient society known as the Veil of Aesir emerges from the shadows. They claim the torcs are relics of divine order—tools to shape the fate of humankind.

But Harper suspects the truth is more dangerous. Each torc carries a memory. Each memory carries a cost. And someone is willing to kill to possess them.

Fleeing from Norway to the firelit skies of Shetland’s Up Helly Aa, and onward to Iceland’s volcanic caves, Harper, Fraser, and the enigmatic scholar Samira Hasan must decipher the mythic origins of the torcs before they’re used to unleash something that should never have been remembered.

Part mythpunk thriller, part queer love story, and part meditation on memory, fate, and resistance, Echo of Fate: A Saga of Fate and Fire is the first volume in a trilogy where Norse cosmology crashes into dystopian urgency—and where remembrance might just be the last act of defiance.

ECHO OF FATE UNBOUND

Bound by prophecy, memory, and a shard of divine power, they must uncover the truth behind the Binding Stone before it unravels the world itself.

This isn’t just a fantasy—it’s a reckoning.

You'll dive into ruins that whisper secrets, confront legends twisted by time, and witness love, loyalty, and sacrifice tested at every turn. If you’ve ever asked what it means to defy destiny—or to forge your own—this book was written for you.
